I’m still waiting on the final mix of the a-side. We have the rough mix and it sounds great. Jon is putting the finishing touches on the track, and he should have it done in a couple days. The rest is done. The album version will be slightly different, which is kind of exciting.
I’m feeling really good about my music right now. I love recording in studio and I’m getting really good at home recording as well. I think everyone is going to really love the new single/EP that’s coming out, and I can’t wait to do more recording for the full length as well.
Keep an eye out on this blog in the next few days. I’m going to be releasing a brand new 3 song single featuring a track from the new album and a couple b-sides. I’ll post more information about it soon.
Full band birthday show. 265 Orange Street. I’m 17 now. Cover songs are categorically stupid but we’re going to cover “Sixteen Blue” by the Replacements because I spent all of the past year listening to that song and feeling like shit. This is a one time only event.
Wow, this week has been eventful. I’ve done so much recently that I’m struggling to remember the order in which everything happened. On Sunday I played a show at Taco Hut in New Haven that was supposed to be full band, but my drummer got sick, so I did it solo. My set was fine but the night was weird. I spent some time with a person by whom I was inspired to write some songs about a year ago — one of them appears on my last album — and that experience did not end well at all. Word to the wise: If someone does something to you bad enough to make you write a sad or angry song about her, don’t forget about that. People don’t really change, I guess.
Anyway, the next day I played a show downtown at a bar called Stella Blues with my other band Circle Circle. It was enjoyable and relatively low-key.
The day after that (yesterday) my band and I played a show in Glastonbury, CT at my friend Tim’s garage with some of our best friends in the CT scene. Milkshakes and Two Humans were especially great, and the show as a whole was a lot of fun. I definitely want to play more DIY shows like that. I also think that we as a band played better together at that show than we ever have before.
Today at band practice we learned a Replacements cover that we’re going to play tomorrow at our show in New Haven with 10,000 Blades. Speaking of which, 10,000 Blades are fucking incredible and I love Jon Stone. Tomorrow is my 17th birthday, so I think it’s fitting that we’re going to play “Sixteen Blue,” one of my favorite Replacements songs. 17 years old. That’s fucking crazy. I’m amazed at what I’ve accomplished in 17 years, but I still can’t help but feel empty. I’ll mark that down as something to work on this year.
